CALENDAR: Latin American Festival is Oct. 10 in North Charleston

Staff reports  |  You can enjoy five hours of music on Oct. 10 at Wannamaker County Park in North Charleston during this year’s Latin American Festival. The non-stop music will include everything from the beats of merengue, to reggaeton, bachata and salsa. Live bands will play throughout the day with DJ Luigi Bravo spinning the hottest hits between sets.  This year’s live music lineup will feature UltimaNota, Orquestra Mayor, and Fulanito.

CALENDAR: Jazz group to kick off season 14 in February

Staff reports  |  Charleston Jazz Orchestra will kick off season 14 in February 2022 with singer/saxophonist Camille Thurman, a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in New York City. Other performances will include a Marh big band show, a May tribute to Chick Corea, a September 2022 Cuban carnival and an October 2022 tribute to Miles Davis.

Staff reports  |  The “Sisters Across the Sea” exhibit of art quilts by local artist Torreah “Cookie” Washington and Ghanaian artist Eunice Maku Aiyku-Nartey will be on display throughout September at Park Circle Gallery, the city of North Charleston announced. A free reception will be held at the gallery 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10.  The artists will have a Zoom conversation about their works and artistic processes at 6 p.m.

CALENDAR: Grape-stomping festival set for Aug. 28

Deep Water Vineyard will celebrate its 17th annual Grape Stomping Festival in a celebration that will give you a taste of locally-grown and imported wine varietal at its Wadmalaw Island location.  Stomping competitions will kick off at noon with a kid stomp followed by adult stomps at 1:30 p.m., 2:50 p.m. and 4:10 p.m.  Sign-up also  in advance for a tasting time and t-shirt to commemorate the day! You can also get a memorable picture of you and your crew stomping in our barrels. It’s just $10 to taste your way through our wines, including the popular Strawberry Wine. Each tasting includes a souvenir stemless wine glass. Several food trucks also will be on site.
