LETTERS: On race, ostracism

LETTERS: On race, ostracism

When reading Kendra Hamilton’s column, I was reminded of a conversation I had a few years ago with an African-American co-worker. I’ve forgotten what it was we were discussing specifically, but whatever the conflict was, we were able to discuss it honestly and resolve it successfully.

WOW! Thank you so much for being the voice for many of us in the community and the faith-based world that believe and feel the same way. Your article [Brack, “Acts of forgiveness may be key to real power”] was so powerful and moving.

LETTER: Horses pull heavy loads in searing heat

LETTER: Horses pull heavy loads in searing heat

Polls may be only a snapshot (“Good News; Community raises concerns about carriage horses”). 00_icon_feedbackThe reality of equines being forced to pull heavy loads (17 Adult passengers by ONE horse) for eight hours a day in searing heat and humidity day after day is a reality that citizen/taxpayers living and working in Charleston understand. It’s common sense.

LETTER: Didn’t like “unscientific” poll on carriage horses

LETTERS: On Horne, mayor’s race

Hurrah for [state Rep.] Jenny Horne! She expressed the frustration what many of us white South Carolinians descended from slave owners felt about the flag flying on the Statehouse grounds.

LETTER: Time to furl the flag

Excellent piece (above) on the confluence of events that helped South Carolinians — and hopefully a lot more people who treated old South enthusiasts like their dotty Uncle Fred but let them get away with their delusions by ignoring them — to begin folding the flag.

LETTER: Value of development

LETTER: Value of development

Darby letter: You, like so many others, [Brack, “State needs to stop kowtowing to developers“] are quick to be critical of Kiawah and seldom look on the positive side of the development.

LETTERS: Stop investing in ephemeral coastal infrastructure

LETTERS: Stop investing in ephemeral coastal infrastructure

The Folly Beach County Park restoration will benefit tourism and relieve parking congestion, and has received recognition from a trade association, wonderful! But the whole concept of building groins to relieve beach erosion, however the Army Corps of Engineers may wish to sell it, is a zero-sum game in which sands trapped on one side are excavated from the other.
